DIY Fire Pit

So, Matt and I were out working in the yard and while he was weed wacking and I was gardening he announced that we needed to go to Home Depot. When I asked why he stated that we needed any killer for the yard. I should have known something was up when instead of taking my car he said, "We might as well take the truck."
Once we left the house he let his intentions be known by asking me to look up the fire pit instructions I had shown him last week. That trickster.
We made our own modifications and our own fire pit for under $50! Ours took an hour to put together but if you don't have rocky soil yours will be even faster.
Supplies:
20 x retaining wall stones ($1.61 each)
If you want a higher fire pit, buy 10 more.

2 x 50 lb bags of stones ($4.50 each)

Don't buy river rock, it will explode in the fire!
1 x 50lb bag of play sand (don't remember how much this costs, we had extra bags lying around from a previous project)
1 can of spray paint
1 shovel

Once your supplies are unloaded at the fire pit site, lay out 10 in a circle, where you want the fire pit to sit.
Then spray paint the circle in the middle so you know where to dig.
Next dig down 12 inches. Don't skimp on the digging, you need enough space for your sand and stone because as Smokey says, "Only YOU can prevent forest fires" by not being an idiot..

Once you've dug down, and removed the grass where the retaining stones will sit, put your 10 piece retaining circle back, and add the second layer right on top.
Then add alternating layers of stone and sand until you've used up your bags. Be sure to tamp it down between layers.
Once you've done those steps, check out your new fire pit, light a fire and enjoy!
