I think that I have survived my first cold in Afghanistan, although I'm not out of the woods yet! I made it through the so-congested-my-head-is-splitting stage, and the leaky-faucet-of-a-nose stage but I'm still completely exhausted and now I've entered the sore throat and sore, raw nose stage.
For those of you that are sitting there smugly thinking, "I knew she shouldn't have eaten that food!" Hold your horses! My cold wasn't because of the Afghan food. If you disagree, you'll have to take it up with the microbiologist that taught me otherwise. If the food or more accurately, the newspaper, made me sick it would have been a gastrointestional issue (pukey face, upset stomach, that sort of thing)and not sinus congestion.
My lovely central-Asian cold has turned all of my free time (and a good portion of my work time) into Nap time! So I haven't done anything exciting for the last few days, beyond making my first trip to the aid station, going through a box of kleenex and sleeping more hours than I've been awake!
Today I was feeling a little bit better, so I decided that I would venture down to the bazaar and the local shops to run an errand. My errand was that I needed to order some college patches for the mulitcam baseball cap I bought :) We all wear our baseball caps throughout the week to show love for our schools. Of course I had to get some for my school, but I also ordered some for Matt's school so that I can show my support. Oh and so I can give the hat to Matt when I get home, since I probably won't be wearing a camo baseball hat outside of Afghanistan ;)
I came home with the patches ordered. I also came home with 7 DVDs, red solo cups and a $10 pair of (f)oakleys! I'm not normally the kind of person that buys fake products; I think that if someone can make a good product I'll pay the price they ask. However, I am still bitter about my real Oakleys getting stolen in the shower! So until I'm over that, I am just not prepared to spend another $85 for sunglasses that I'll only wear in uniform!
Oh family and friends! I forgot to mention that the bazaar has a lot of cute local things. There's lots of jewelry but also carpets, wooden crafts, pretty glass decorations and pretty little elephants, camels etc. If anyone wants something while I'm out here, leave me a comment and let me know what you want! I also may or may not be getting some Christmas presents while I'm here!
I look forward to reading your comments and requests. I have over 2,000 views now but I still have No idea who my regular readers are, since y'all don't chime in! While y'all read this (and comment!) I will get back to recovering from my cold and watching my movies!

I wish I could be called a "regular" reader but unfortunately I'm more like, what I like to call "grandma" reader. Haha I get one here every once and a while, then read all the past blogs and want to comment but I feel like its too late...haha. I enjoy reading your experiences. It always reminds me of my dads military years; traveling to new countries, seeing new places, experiencing new cultures and expectations, meeting new people, seeing new creatures...You get where I'm going with that. Soak it all up, these are the days you'll remember forever! Love you, be safe. Keep writing....I really enjoy it. Xoxo

Hope all of your DVDs work. Your dad got some DVDs in Iraq that were horrible copies!
