Mid-September, already?!

It's almost hard to believe that it's already mid-September! Although I miss my family constantly, it seems like the time has been passing rather quickly. The highlights of this week were: getting over my cold, getting three care packages, trekking out to wash my sheets and my work computer breaking.

Although I am extremely happy about getting over my cold I don't think I need to divulge any snotty, achey details so we'll just move right along to my mail! To set the mood for you I will describe the turn of events yesterday at around 11am. I was sitting in my office with a handful of other people when we heard someone shouting from outside. We all got quiet and soon we heard multiple people shouting in unison. It took us a minute but we realized that they were chanting, "MAIL! MAIL! MAIL!" As the mail handlers were driving the truck full of boxes up to the building! Grown men screaming about mail may seem a little bit ridiculous, but when you're deployed, getting a box in the mail is better than Christmas morning! I don't mean to offend anybody, but think about it- when is the last time you were in a place where you didn't have running water, snack foods or any basic hygiene items readily available and depended on that box from home not only for the letters and pictures from loved ones, but for clean socks, toothpaste or tampons? Getting to open presents on Christmas morning is a blast, don't get me wrong but getting stuff out here, when you're 7,000 miles from home is better. Trust me.
After three better-than-Christmas-mornings I now have some delicious food, office supplies, MORE BOOT SOCKS, and some wonderful touches from home.
Why yes, as a matter of fact I was the first person in the office to get Halloween Decorations :) And let me tell you, it was a wonderful surprise!

So wonderful goodie bags from angels aside, I also had a nice mile long trip to the self-use washers and dryers to wash my sheets! I do my best to keep myself and my room clean but it's impossible when there is literally dust and dirt raining down from the ceiling!
Yes that IS a pile of dust on my bed. No, I did not shake my boots out over that spot. I just casually turned and took a picture of the head of my bed.
Dust falls down on me and my bed through the cracks in my plywood ceiling, so I have to pull my blankets all the way up so that it doesn't land on my pillow and my sheets. But it doesn't help in the middle of the night when I get sprinkled with Afghan fairy dust as I sleep :/ So as you can see, frequent treks to the laudry facility need to be made. The catch of course is that the facility is a mile away, and so crowded 24/7 that it takes about 3 hours to get a small load of laundry washed and dried! And turning in my sheets is out of the question right now, because the turn in laundry has a 72 hour turn around. So unless one of my wonderful readers wants to send me some nice soft twin sized sheets that I can rotate with this set, I'm stuck with my current dusty set up.
Before you go and feel sorry for me, you have to know that I did get a consellation prize while I was at the bazaar this week. I went to pick up the patched I made for my camo hat and as I was waiting for the seamstress to finish I wandered next door to a shop that sells jewelry and baubles. I was particularly interested in some pretty colored glass flowers for Alexis' room. As I was looking the gentleman that owned the shop came up and started talking to me, then asked me to hold out my hand. When I did, he grabbed one of his rings and put it on my finger. I told him it was pretty, but no thank you and that's when he pushed it back on my finger and told me it was a gift! I tried to decline about 4 more times but eventually gave up and accepted his gift and business card.
Haha I think I'll hold on to the ring and let Alexis have it to add to her dress-up clothes and costume jewelry!

So after my semi-eventful week, I was looking forward to updating everyone (and looking for more gift requests from y'all) but I haven't had a chance, because my work computer has been down and by the time I get home for the night I just feel like crawling in to bed, talking to Matt and going straight to sleep!
Consider yourselves lucky that I made time today to scramble up a post!
I need to get back to work now, but as always, I am appreciative (and slightly surprised) that y'all keep reading, and I love to hear your feedback!

Your dad said, "duct tape!!" Duct tape on the cracks of your wood ceiling will seal the cracks, and keep the rain fall if dust off your bed.

My dads favorite saying, if you can't duct it, f**k it. Lol I like the idea
