Ready or Not

This week, Wyatt and Alexis had an announcement to make:

They were so excited to tell everyone that they're going to have a new baby brother or sister! Matt and I gave them their shirts and told them on Saturday and they've asked to wear them every day since! Wyatt also likes to ask me when my belly is going to get fat. Haha, soon enough kiddo, soon enough.

Throughout the pregnancy I decided to keep my baby updates and belly pictures restricted to my blog because I know the vast majority of my social media friends don't want to be inundated with photos of my white stomach and updates about my craving of the week. That being said, sorry. I haven't taken any photos yet. But don't worry there aren't any visible signs of pregnancy yet, so I've got time.

To track the pregnancy and update y'all consistently I'm going to answer a few questions every time:

How far along? I'm only 5 1/2 weeks along. The baby's heart has formed and started beating but it's still the size of a small tadpole- tail and all.

Total weight gain/loss: in the first trimester I'm only supposed to gain 2-4 pounds. I've gained about one so far.

Maternity clothes? Nope. Although I've looked online for cute ones. Problems of a shopaholic

Stretch marks? I haven't grown any, I should hope not!

Sleep: yes please. With a side order of more sleep, topped with a bit more! I normally go to bed around 11pm and wake up for work around 5am but since week 3 or 4 I've been falling asleep around 9 and not waking up until 7! I also take naps 2-3 times a week! I've never slept this much or felt as tired as I do. Thanks for that, baby.

Best moment this week: telling the kids. They were so excited to tell their cousins that they're going to have a baby, and they run up to Matt and I through out the day to ask questions about the baby. It's so nice that they're old enough to be excited and that they want to be involved.

Miss Anything? Other than my energy? No, not really. The only differences so far are that I don't have a beer after dinner and if I want a sandwich I microwave my lunch meat first.

Wait, I lied. I miss being able to wrestle with the kids, wakeboard and do backflips off the rocks into the lake! I'm sure those desires will only grow stronger as the summer wears on.

Movement: yes, I'm fully mobile. Oh, baby movement? Size of a tadpole, remember.

Food cravings: nothing out of the norm yet. I'm sure it will get weird soon enough.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope! It's been smooth sailing. Although on average morning sickness doesn't start until week six, so I'm sure I'll have my fair share of throwing up in the weeks to come.

Have you started to show yet: not at all.

Gender: this is the hardest part. I'm a big planner. I've already started the baby registries and started buying essentials but I'm working with my hands tied behind my back until we find out the gender! These are going to be the slowest 10 weeks of my life. Matt and I are hoping for a boy, but have names for both already and we know that the most important thing is to pray for a healthy baby.

Labor Signs: good Lord, no!

Belly Button in or out? I'm an innie

Wedding rings on or off? On. Erry day :)

Looking forward to:  finding out the gender! And the 10 week ultrasound! We've already got the appointment scheduled and the time off. Again, just waiting... For. Ever...

Mood: happy! I haven't felt the hormones take the reins yet. For now I'm just enjoying the adventure.

Milestones: the next one in my book is the baby outgrowing the tail! Haha in the normal world I don't think the next milestone isn't until 10 weeks when you can see the baby on ultrasound.

Upcoming Appointments/Events: Yes. Lots of them. Ultrasounds and physicals and giving more blood.

What I look forward to: teaching the kids as the pregnancy continues. Oh and finding out the gender but I feel like I've overemphasized that one.

Weekly Wisdom: take your prenatals and enjoy being minimally pregnant while you can! Soon enough I will have the bladder of a 3 year old, the waddle of a penguin and the aches and pains of a geriatric. Until then, I have a new appreciation for my healthy and able body and my iron stomach.

I'll try to give another update in two weeks or so. But right now we're on vacation and there just isn't enough going on with the baby to warrant anything sooner.

If anyone has anything they want me to include in the next baby post, please let me know! I would love to be able to look back on these to reminisce on my pregnancy.

I remember living my normal life and activities until my 6th month.... swimming is good for you, so don't give that up.
During the first 3 months, the fetus is small and so very well protected, that you don't need to be overly cautious. Just follow doctors orders and eat well. You're going to love the pre-natal vitamins!!! My nails and hair improved dramatically! ;-)

You can find the gender out sooner with a blood test. :) You dont have to wait for the ultrasound.
